  • Gabriella Safran is the Eva Chernov Lokey Professor in Jewish Studies in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. She teaches and researches about Russian and Yiddish literatures and cultures, folklore, intellectual history, and sound studies. Her most recent book, Recording Russia: Trying to Listen in the Nineteenth Century, is about how writers listen to people less privileged than themselves. As the Senior Associate Dean for Humanities and Arts, she enjoys learning about all the extraordinary work that students and faculty do at Stanford.

Michael Joiner-Hill is an Associate Director for Career Coaching and Education at Stanford Career Education. He leads a team that focuses on providing high quality career coaching support for undergraduate and master’s-level students pursuing degrees in the humanities & sciences. He has a BA in Psychology and MSW in Interpersonal Practice with a focus area of mental health, both from the University of Michigan.
