Anderson Collection

Main content start

Welcome to Stanford’s art museums! The Cantor and Anderson Collection at Stanford University are your home for explorations of visual art on the university’s campus.

With collections that span thousands of years, the museums offer endless opportunities for intellectual engagement. Whether you are pursuing research, joining us as a tour guide, attending a social event or simply wandering our galleries or seeking a peaceful place to study, we are eager to invite you in and offer support.

The Anderson Collection is home to a remarkable collection of modern and contemporary American art. Through collaborations with faculty, students, artists and the public, the museum inspires creative engagement, community programming, and active learning. The admission free museum opened in 2014 following a gift of art from Harry W. and Mary Margaret Anderson and Mary Patricia Anderson Pence, the Bay Area family who built the collection over the past 50 years. World-renowned examples of New York School, Bay Area Figuration, California Light & Space, and contemporary art fill the galleries. The addition of this remarkable collection strengthens Stanford’s growing commitment to the arts and the connection between the study, creation and experience of art.
